Look For The First Signs Of Hearing Loss
Problems with hearing can strike at almost any age. Some persons have significant hearing loss at birth. Others develop hearing loss as time passes. However, you experience hearing loss, here are some sins for which to look.
A person experiencing hearing loss may be very loud during conversations. Conversely, a person experiencing hearing loss may speak very quietly. People with even mild hearing loss may have difficulty hearing their own voice. The person may not know that his voice level is higher or lower than normal.
If you notice that your family comes into a room where you are listening to the radio or watching television, and immediately begin turning down the volume, this may be a sign of hearing loss. Persons with hearing loss turn up the volume, believing that the show is running quiet tonight.
Another sign of hearing loss is difficulty hearing on the phone. Many modern phones have a volume control, and you may find yourself constantly at battle with other family members as you turn the volume up and they turn it down. Cell phones cause even more problems for people with hearing loss. Often the volume on the conversation cannot be turned to an acceptable volume for those with hearing loss. Ringer volumes of cell phones also pose a problem for those with Proline hearing aid batteries. Many times calls are missed since the ring tone is never heard.
Some persons with hearing loss experienced the loss at an early age. In some ways, this may be an advantage as they learn to read lips to compensate for the loss. Some persons with significant hearing loss do not realize the loss until vision changes make it difficult for them to "hear." You may notice that lip readers position themselves in such a way as to have a direct line of sight with the other person in the conversation. Persons who read lips may have difficulty understanding persons with mustaches.
Some persons who develop a hearing problem begin to dominate conversations. Dominating the conversation keeps the person from being expected to answer other's questions that the hearing-impaired person did not hear.
Another sign of hearing loss may be that family or friends suddenly remind you of promises made of which you have no recollection. With Rayovac Proline, your mind may fill in the words of a conversation with what makes sense to you. Subconsciously, you have heard and agreed to something of which you have no idea. This can lead to embarrassing moments for persons just beginning to show signs of hearing loss. This is a good sign that someone you know might need batteries for hearing aids.
If your signs of hearing loss are causing you difficulty in relationships or at work be sure to check with a local hearing aid audiologist. Sometimes hearing loss may be caused by a wax buildup in the ear canal. The hearing professional or your doctor can remove this build up and restore your hearing to normal.
