John Goodman, MD, On Colon Surgery At The Everett Clinic
Overview

INTERVIEWER: Let's talk about colon surgery.
DR. GOODMAN: Colon surgeries usually fall into one of two categories: cancer surgery, which is, for the most part, diagnosed after a colonoscopy, and then the other involves complications of diverticulitis.
Some of it's related to obstructions of the small valve structures following surgeries or other types of tumors. They tend to show up on short notice and patients with a colon cancer don't want to wait weeks. One of the nice things about The Everett Clinic Surgery Department is that we can meet that expectation, getting you to the operating room when you need to be, and getting on with your therapy so that you don't have to worry about the tumor spreading.
Another nice part about the other aspect of the colon surgery, the diverticulitis for example, is that we have good communication with our hospital-based surgeons, the emergency department, our Walk-In Clinics, our primary care and our radiology, so that the most current preferred treatments of diverticulitis, for example, are happening synchronously and we can understand with the patient their progress, or lack of it, and customize their treatment so that they get better, quicker; or, if they have to go to emergent surgery that there's no waste of time.
The Everett Clinic has three pharmacies, two surgery centers with advanced technology, and eight urgent care Walk-In Clinics. The Clinic Everett Clinic holds a regional cancer center partnership.
